    Default Approved Software Lists.

In any enterprise environment, stability of your operating environment ranks right up there with security as a number one concern. So one thing we're starting to pro-actively do in our school division is develop and publish an "Approved Software List".

The "Approved Software List" will itemize all software which has been tested by the tech department and verified to work properly in our environment. Software on this list may be purchased by the schools without worry because compatibility and mass deployment packaging and tests have all been done already.

If the software isn't on the list, staff must submit a request to have the software (commercial or open source) tested to ensure compatibility before purchase is permitted.

I'm curious as to how many other school divisions are doing this? If so, how successful has it been?

    Regards,

    ErnestA.
